Athletics Festival

Athletics Festival Winners!

Congratulations to all the Year 5/6 children, who demonstrated a positive attitude and team spirit in the Athletics Festival at Selby Abbey Leisure Centre, on Friday 11th November.  We were proud winners of the Brayton cluster and will go on to compete in the second round on 2nd December.

Sports Update 2010/2011

Playground Leaders

Seventeen members of Year 6 have received training in Sports Leadership.  Our playground leaders deliver an exciting range of playground games in order to encourage physical activity, communication and respect on the playground.

Swimming

All year groups have swimming lessons as part of the curriculum.  The lessons take place at Selby Leisure Centre over a course of 9-10 weeks.
Year 6 are currently going swimming every Thursday.
Year 5 will be starting shortly.
Talented swimmer will participate in a Swimming Gala in 2011 at Selby Abbey Leisure Centre.

Athletics

Talented athletes will participate in an Indoor Athletics Festival in 2011 at Selby Abbey Leisure Centre.

ESFA Cup Football

Pupils from Year 6 participated in the ESFA Cup during the Autumn Term.  The team qualified for the local area finals, but ended up runners up.

York City Football Club Football in the Community

York City Football Club Football in the Community are delivering after school football skill sessions to Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.  The sessions cover basic football skills and help pupils develop their co-ordination and agility. 
After a winter break the sessions will recommence in March.

Get Active Board

The Get Active board within the school promotes a variety of local sports and physical activities to pupils.  Pupils have been invited to produce a poster about a sport or physical activity in which they regularly participate.  Each poster includes contact details for the club/organisers to encourage other pupils to join.

Get Active on the Newsletter

The newsletter regularly contains details of sport and physical activities within the local area, including holiday clubs.

Sports Diary Dates

July 14th is the last day of Year 3 swimming.

July 15th is School Sports Day.

Sainsbury's Sport Relief Selby Mile

Staff and pupils from Brayton Junior School participated in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Selby Mile on Sunday 21st March 2010.
