Welcome back from half term, we hope everyone had a lovely holiday.
This week the whole school has looked at different safety issues and how we can stay safe in school, at home and on the roads.
We have looked at how we can safe in the kitchen. We had to think of different questions to ask the children who were making biscuits. We also made a poster to show how to stay safe in the kitchen.
We have also learnt about 'Stranger Danger' - we found out how strangers could try and trick you. We also made a comic strip to warn younger children about strangers.
Railway safety was also on the agenda this week, where children learnt about following the rules at railway crossings. Children also saw a clip of people not obeying the rules and walking on the train tracks.
Finding out about Fireworks and how to be safe we had to make up a short play or a rap to encourage small children to hold sparklers sensibly, and only adults should light fireworks.
Cycling safety was also part of the week. Children watched a video clip of a boy who did not wear the correct gear wholst on his bike. He go hit by a car door and he got badly bruised, cut and broke his nose.
In the ICT suite we learnt about keeping safe on the computers. A website called - thinkuknow.com - allowed children to go into the cyber cafe where they had to make the correct choice for different situations.
Playground safety taught us how to respond to any accidents that may happen at school. We also produces some poster to show about keeping safe.
Now it is getting dark early it is important to wear bright clothes or reflective gear/badges/strips so that we can be seen in the dark.
On Tuesday 1st November the whole school had a special assembly about fire safety. Four men and one lady from Selby Fire Station came into school and talked to us about keeping safe in the home. We watched a short film called 'The Amazing Adventures of Catherine Wheel' it was a very silly film but we enjoyed it!
